Kat Dennings' Role In Thor All But Confirmed

It was surprising, to say the least, when Natalie Portman broke the news yesterday that Kat Dennings was going to be in Thor, but the real story was that nobody had any idea as to what role she would play. With Portman already cast in the role of Jane Foster and Jaimie Alexander playing the Asgardian warrior Sif, more female roles weren't immediately apparent, causing some to speculate that Dennings would be playing a role made just for the film. Turns out that they were probably right.

Following the news, the writers over at Hey U Guys astutely went back to look at a casting call from last month, which included the Warriors Three (Now confirmed to be Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano) as well as a character named Marcy Lewis, who is described as such:

“[MARCY LEWIS] (20) Is a college student. Aloof, jaded beyond her years, she thought her internship with scientist Kate Spelling would be an easy 6 college credits. However, she’s been stuck for months in this small New Mexico town and relegated to a wide range of unglamorous activities. Kate has been particularly hard on Marcy, making it her personal project to see that Marcy lives up to her potential. Marcy deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.”

Well, that certainly will put an end to all speculation. From The 40 Year Old Virgin, to Charlie Bartlett, to Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Dennings has started off her career playing an "overt wiseass," and it doesn't look like that will stop any time soon. The fact that she is doing a science internship would also seem to indicate that she will know Thor in his human form, medical student Donald Blake, which, as Katey suggested, would put her in scenes with Portman. We still don't know who will be playing Dr. Spelling, but don't expect too long a wait considering that the film starts shooting in January.
