Headed into theaters this April is a documentary that looks at the life and musical contributions of Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, Marley tells the life story of the musician and features rare footage and performances from the days when Marley’s music and message were making their way around the world.

The trailer below, which was originally posted by iTunes gives us a sample of what Marley has to offer, which from the looks of it, has the potential to be a fascinating look at Marley’s life. In addition to footage of the man himself, and his performances, there are also interviews from people who knew him.

It looks like Marley gives Marley fans and music enthusiasts alike an interesting look into the history of the man, from his early days to his ascent to musical stardom and fame and musical legacy, which would last far beyond his living years. And from what’s shown in the interviews, he seems to be content with a richness of life above material possessions.

The film makes his way into theaters on April 20, 2012.
