San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close… though we will be parsing through all of the news that filtered out of Hall H for the next few months, weeks – OK, years. Marvel has said that they have at least eight films on their slate through 2019. Warner Bros. has confirmed a Justice League film. And Fox has revealed plans for at least two movies in The Fantastic Four franchise.
Why didn’t we get any concrete news about those projects?
Listen. I’m not saying that he studios HAD to provide information on all of these upcoming projects. It is their job to tease upcoming films, as much as it is their job to deliver on those blockbusters. Watching great superhero films always trumps talking about possible superhero films. But we really thought we were getting some juicy news about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his involvement in the DC Cinematic Universe. Why? Because he kept telling us that it was going to happen! Remember the following Tweet? What happened? We talk about it in today’s Monday Movie Memo.
So, the questions remain:
- When will we hear legitimate details about the future of the DC universe?
- When will Marvel confirm the titles that are supposed to hit theaters in 2017, ’18 and ’19?
- And when will we finally get to see some footage from Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four universe?
Stay tuned, and we’ll continue to cover all of these stories as they develop.
