Mummy 3 Has Been Screened By Studio Execs

Rob Cohen has offered another update on his upcoming Mummy sequel, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. As you might expect, the movie is moving right along, with the current edit sitting just below two hours and changes being made daily to shape the movie into its final form.

The Universal executives have finally seen an initial screening of the movie and the reaction has been pretty good. In fact, Cohen says they have offered to toss more money his way to enhance visual effects or add in shots he didn’t have the money to complete. That’s either a really good sign that the movie shows a lot of potential, or a really bad sign that the movie needs more help. From Cohen’s blog entry, it would seem like it’s the good side of things.

Apparently a tentative trailer was pieced together for Showest and it seemed to go over well. That trailer will become more official as temporary effects shots are replaced with more polished shots, and Cohen hopes to premiere the trailer on his own blog – something he’s mentioned before.

Otherwise, Cohen’s update is filled with the regular things you’d expect to find from a movie in its final stages. Music is being recorded, ADR looping is happening, visual effects are grinding along (with only 100 out of 1100 completed). Still, Cohen finds the time to offer information on his family and put together another featurette on visual effects, which will hit his blog later this week.

What Cohen doesn’t explain is that goofy poster that appeared at Showest and looked more like something out of Mortal Kombat than The Mummy. Here’s hoping an explanation of that is in the future – either that or a revised poster that looks more like a part of this franchise.
