Neighborhood Watch Cast Adds Hellboy's Doug Jones

Since we started reporting casting for Akiva Schaffer's Neighborhood Watch, just about all of the announcements have involved actors with comedic backgrounds. From Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn as the leads to Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade in supporting roles, the movie is packed with some truly hysterical people. The newest bit of news, however, is just slightly different.

Doug Jones, best known for playing the Fawn in Pan's Labyrinth and Abe Sapien in the two Hellboy films, has joined the cast of the new Fox comedy as an alien, according to THR. The film's plot revolves around a group of family men who form a fake neighborhood watch committee as an excuse to get away from their wives and children and hang out. Their plan backfires when they accidentally stumble upon an alien plot that threatens to destroy the world. Also starring Will Forte, Nicholas Braun, Rosemarie DeWitt and Erin Moriarty, the film was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Production is scheduled to begin later this month in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is definitely awesome news. Jones has made a career out of playing crazy, ridiculous, and weird characters and creatures, so his addition to the cast is a no-brainer. It does bring up the question, though, about how the alien will look. Thanks to Jones' body shape we know that it will be at least 6'3", but that's about it. Considering that the alien is trying to destroy our planet, one can probably guess that he will look quite evil. Let's hope for something in between the xenomorph in Alien and the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth.
