Usually when a director's name gets thrown around as "in talks" or "being considered" for some high profile role, they lay low until the news is confirmed, afraid to piss off the studio by even acknowledging that those "talks" are happening. But Patty Jenkins was already an unusual choice to be "in talks" to direct Thor 2, so she's taking an unusual approach to it: actually admitting it to the press. On a red carpet in New York, Jenkins admitted to Vulture that the talks are indeed happening, even though she pretended she didn't. Here's the quote:

“I can’t say anything definitive, but it’s exciting to be in talks with them about it. I think Marvel is really ballsy to think outside the box. And I think everyone they’ve talked to and hired has been interesting.”

So there you have it-- Jenkins, who directed Monster with Charlize Theron and has some solid TV credits to her name, really is Marvel's choice to take over Thor 2. Don't forget, of course, that the first one was directed by Kenneth Branagh, an uncommon choice for a superhero movie on his own. But Jenkins clearly knows that it's not just her lack of experience with special effects, but the fact that she's a woman that really sets her apart from the rest of the superhero crowd. Whether or not you think she's a good choice for the job, you've got to admit her candor is pretty refreshing. Here's hoping the i's get dotted and the t's crossed so we can look forward to more chatter from her in the coming year or so.
