As someone who occasionally goes out on a limb without covering his bases, let me be the first to say I get how this next story happened. Ryan Gosling, a limb stepper after my own heart, was apparently fired from The Lovely Bones by director Peter Jackson for gaining sixty pounds prior to production. The role was eventually recast with Mark Wahlberg, and Gosling found himself “fat and unemployed.”
Speaking at length to THR, the brilliant actor said he didn’t discuss the weight gain with the director until he showed up on set and “found out [he] got it wrong”. As firings go, this one seems a little more affable than usual, but Gosling is still standing tall in his weight-related conviction. “I really believed he should be 210 pounds.” Gosling was probably right, but for some reason, people like to see their lead actors in a healthy BMI range.
Just how did the actor gain sixty pounds? By drinking melted ice cream whenever he got thirsty. I don’t know about you, but if I thought my job required me to gain copious amounts of weight, I’d like to think I’d be able to find more delicious ways to go about it.
