Satan Friendly Family Comedy

Nothing says family fun like demons. Or at least that’s what 20th Century Fox is thinking. The Hollywood Reporter says they’ve picked up a pitch for a movie called The Devil You Know, based on a children’s book by Nathan Hale.

Hale’s book is about a little devil who lives in the home of the Fell family. Apparently he’s not such a bad hellspawn, because instead of succumbing to the usual mind-number terror associated with the dark one’s minions, they’re alright with having him hang around until he starts doing bad things. Apparently he’s more like a snake cake devil than an actual, straight from hell devil. The Fell’s grow impatient, and make a deal with the little devil’s boss Ms. Phisto and allow her to take his place. Things only get worse. Anyone want to guess what “Phisto” is short for?

It’s not often someone manages to make family entertainment out of the devil. The last time I remember it working was in my favorite episode of Jim Henson’s ‘The Storyteller’ in which a soldier tricks a bunch of nasty, card playing devils into a sack. But that wasn’t a comedy. Fox it seems, plans to make this into a family fun laugh-riot in the vein of Night at the Museum.
