While the 2026 TV schedule is filled to the brim with new and upcoming shows, it’s never too early to start getting excited about what’s to come in 2027. Among the new series for next year will be the much-anticipated Baywatch reboot starring Stephen Amell. There will be much more slow-motion running on the beach with the lifeguards wearing the iconic red swimsuits. However, it’s not all fun and swimsuits for Amell as the show officially wraps filming its first season.

Filming for the Baywatch reboot kicked off in March, with Fox showing the first footage in May. Fans have been seeing some BTS content, though, whether through set photos or content that the Baywatch cast have been sharing online. It seems like the reboot has finally wrapped its inaugural season after five months. Amell, who portrays Captain Hobie Buchannon, took to Instagram to share a video reflecting on his time on Baywatch. And how both hard and incredible filming has been:

What an adventure. I’ve been at this in some way, shape, or form knowingly since early January and unknowingly since maybe last August. But that’s a story for a different time. It’s been an incredible experience. It’s been amazing. This is a hard show.

It’s no secret that being an actual lifeguard is a pretty tough job. It’s not just about watching people swimming. There’s hard training and tough rescues regardless if you’re at a pool or the ocean. So it only makes sense that actors go through intense training to make their roles as accurate as possible. Having to get Baywatch fit is no easy feat, and Zac Efron even pushed his body for the 2017 reboot movie. Not to mention the fact that filming on the beach in the red swimsuits can be grueling at times.

In fact, filming Baywatch was so grueling that Amell revealed that he’s going to take some time off. At least until he has to start promoting the new series. The Suits LA star shared that it’s time for a “reset,” and he’s looking forward to going on vacation, having ice cream, and maybe fishing. Despite how hard production has been, Amell is still as grateful as ever to have been part of Baywatch, hopefully for many years to come:

This has been very special. I always get tired at the end of shoots. A little melancholy. This is my 12th season at the head of a television show. And I am, as always, so fortunate to have so many good people around me. Last but not least, my family.

While filming on the beach is a dream and a chore, from the looks of all of the BTS content we’ve been getting, it seems like the cast has had an overall blast. I, for one, am excited to see how this new series turns out and see all the hard work they’ve been putting in. It will also be fun to see some of the OG Baywatch stars in the reboot, which is really enough reason to tune in.

Even though production has wrapped, it might still be another few months until a set premiere date is announced. The wait will be worth it, especially if Amell keeps his promise and posts more photos from set in the near future. The Baywatch reboot will be coming to Fox in 2027.
