Subscribe To See Liam Hemsworth Photobomb Jeff Goldblum On The Independence Day: Resurgence Set Updates
The ramp up to Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to 1996’s Independence Day, officially is underway. This time next year, original stars Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Bill Pullman will be fending off a new alien invasion, and Fox has begun prepping audiences for what they are going to see on screen. To that end, Goldblum joined social media with this amusing Facebook pic:

So there I was thinking about how I would save mankind when this guy photobombs me. Oh, why hello Facebook, nice to finally meet you. #IDR

Now, I’m lucky enough to be able to tell you that Jeff Goldblum, in that Facebook post, is standing in front of a military jet that has been enhanced with alien technology that we took from the ships that crashed at the end of Roland Emmerich’s original film. Though the sequel will be set in 2016 (or close to it), it will be an alternate version of our reality where the nations of the world have created an intergalactic defense system to ward off any subsequent attacks that might come the first alien invasion. We even have a Moon Base, and on it, we pilot this Moon Tug!

Liam Hemsworth, unofficially, is the new Will Smith in the sequel, a regular dude thrown into an unusual situation who has to rise up (and team up with Jeff Goldblum) to stop a fresh alien attack. And so, when he sees his co-star posing for his first social media post, he decided to hop on a ladder and photobomb… beautifully.

But Hemsworth isn’t the only new face added to the mix for Independence Day: Resurgence. You can also look for Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward, who is playing the President of the United States in this sequel. Don’t count Bill Pullman out, though. He’s going to play a bearded, slightly off-center version of the former world leader in the sequel, and from what he told me, he may or may not be much of a help when the aliens come a knocking.

Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence will be in theaters a year from now, opening up on June 24, 2016. We will have a lot more from the set as we get closer to the release, but for now, enjoy this delicious photobomb, and have a great Fourth of July weekend!
