Of all the news pouring out of Austin during South By Southwest, Transformers 4 casting scoops are pretty far down the list of items you’d expect to hear. Yet, with Josh Duhamel in town to promote his road-trip drama Scenic Route, he hinted at a possible return to Michael Bay’s robot franchise.

The Safe Haven star talked to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting Route, and said that even though Bay wants to go younger with the sequel, there’s probably going to be room for Duhamel’s military hero, Major Lennox.
[Bay] said he wants to put me in it someplace. I don’t know if he was just saying that because he had me on the phone and he felt obligated or what, but you know what? I got to do three of those. It changed my career, it changed my life getting to be a part of something that big, so I’m grateful for even doing the first three of them," Duhamel said.

That would make Duhamel the only character to carry over for the fourth movie, which is going in a different direction with a rumored female lead and the casting of Mark Wahlberg, who worked with Bay on April’s release, Pain and Gain. There should be some continuity from the previous trilogy, even though Bay has hinted that the new film will be set years after Dark of the Moon. And Duhamel’s character easily could be brought back into the fold if and when the Decepticons start destroying our planet once again.

Could this mean the return of other franchise favorites? Will Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and/or or the annoying combo of Kevin Dunn and Julie White get phone calls from Bay, as well? We’ll see.
