Yesterday we got a close-up look at Mark Wahlberg in Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction, the actor holding some kind of strange alien sword-gun hybrid, but today Yahoo! is letting the star's supporting cast get some of the spotlight. Up top we have a new look at Jack Raynor in the film, while below you will find a character poster for Nicola Peltz.
Whalberg, who plays Cade Yeager in the film, will be playing the father of Peltz's Tessa Yeager and her boyfriend in the movie is Raynor's Shane. While we don't know much about the script written by Ehren Kruger, we do know that the trio of human characters will find themselves in some serious trouble when they make a discovery that gets a lot of attention from the Autobots, Decepticons and the government. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Bingbing Li, Titus Welliver, T.J. Miller, and Kelsey Grammer.
Sadly, these new posters really aren't much to look at. While Wahlberg's design was accented with an awesome alien weapon, these two are just taking the classic "stare into the middle distance" pose. Why not let them look like action stars as well? Why not have them jumping into battle or at least taking cover? How much does it cost to Photoshop an explosion into the background?
More importantly, however, what I'm not really sure about here is why we aren't seeing character posters featuring the the real stars of the show: the Transformers. The big draw in this franchise is not the plot, the dialogue, or the human characters, but the big Autobots and Decepticons clashing in mechanical warfare. When the film's Super Bowl trailer came out last month, audiences weren't talking about how cool it was to see Mark Wahlberg in a Transformers movie - they were talking about seeing Optimus Prime riding a dinobot.
We will get to see a bigger sample of that kind of action later today when the first theatrical trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction arrives online. The launch is scheduled for 7:30pm EST/4:30pm PST, and we'll have it up for you as soon as it becomes available. So be sure to check back in with us later today! In the meantime, enjoy the aforementioned Super Bowl trailer.
