We're not going to see Star Wars: Episode VIII until next December, and we won't be the only folks waiting for the finished product to drop. As the cast starts to wrap production on Rian Johnson's entry in the legendary sci-fi franchise's canon, their goodbyes have been finding their way onto the internet. Previously, we saw Mark Hamill's sign-off, and now we have Daisy Ridley's goodbye, as you can see in the featured photo below.
The Star Wars actor shared her fond farewell to the production of Star Wars: Episode VIII through her official Instagram account, and it's a pretty cryptic image. If you look at it a certain way, it looks like Daisy Ridley is in a very similar setting to the one we saw her in towards the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More specifically, this image almost looks like it comes from the duel between Ridley's Rey and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren on the surface of the Starkiller Base. However, knowing the secrecy surrounding the Star Wars series, there's a possibility that this photo could be showing off a new setting, and we just don't know it yet.
It would seem highly unlikely that the powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm Ltd. would let Daisy Ridley show off too much of the Star Wars: Episode VIII set, but at the same time a little tease seems like the least that could be done. The photo on display could very well be set on a new planet that we haven't seen yet, seeing as Starkiller Base isn't the only snowy planet in the Star Wars galaxy. Also, it certainly doesn't help that the outfit Ridley is wearing in this photo doesn't look like it's changed much from the original outfit that Rey was wearing throughout Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so we're wondering just what's going on here.
There is definitely a possibility that the photo being shown could still come from Star Wars: Episode VIII, and could be a flashback to Rey's duel with Kylo Ren on the Starkiller Base. Under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker, Rey could be going over her mental highlight reel, looking at what she did right and wrong with her Jedi mentor and learning the ways of The Force, as well as proper lightsaber combat. Or, this sequence could be just a straight up flashback, as a moment so momentous would burn its way into the mind of anyone who experienced it, Force user or not.
It's along road between now and whatever truth Star Wars: Episode VIII holds for us all, but we'd like to congratulate Daisy Ridley on wrapping what we're already anxiously anticipating to be one of 2017's biggest hits. Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 15, 2017, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story serving as an appetizer to hold us over on December 16th.
