Since J.J Abrams' Star Trek reboot in 2009, there have been cameos by real life figures that the viewing public may not have expected. With The Last Lecture author Randy Pausch and Uncharted voice actor Nolan North making appearances in the first two films, the third film is set to continue the pattern of a low-key cameos by real life figures. Get ready for a Prime appearance by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, as he's playing an alien in Star Trek Beyond.
AP's The Big Story grabbed the scoop, as Bezos' involvement has only come out recently. But don't think that Jeff Bezos' role in Star Trek Beyond is just a random coincidence, as the internet bigwig has not only had a passion for Star Trek since he was a child, but also started his own space travel firm as a result of said fandom. Director Justin Lin commented further on Jeff Bezos' role as an unknown alien, with the following information about his time on set:
He was awesome. It was like a president was visiting, you know? He had a big entourage! But it didn't matter because he was so into it. He had to wait around all day because it was one day we were shooting like three different scenes and, it was also credit to Jeff because ... he just nailed it every time.
If we were to guess where Jeff Bezos would be popping up in Star Trek Beyond, especially considering he did only one day of shooting, it could be assumed that he would be one of the 50 new alien races that the film is promising as tribute to the franchise's 50th anniversary. What's more, it wouldn't be all that surprising to find out that Bezos' alien character is one of those stranded by the machinations of Idris Elba's Krall, as we've seen brief glimpses of numerous Starfleet officers, along side stranded crew-members of the Enterprise, on a still unknown planet in the Star Trek galaxy.
What's more interesting is despite Jeff Bezos' fame in the business world, most folks probably wouldn't be able to pick him out of a line up. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the case of Star Trek Beyond star Chris Pine, as he apparently describe the Bezos' experience thusly:
I was there for the bit with his like nine bodyguards and three limos. It was really intense. I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important.
Let's hope Chris Pine isn't an Amazon Prime subscriber, as he may find a couple of packages missing after those remarks. In all seriousness, trying to pick out Jeff Bezos' cameo is going to be fun, as no other details have been given as to where he'll be seen in the finished product. We'll just have to wait until this Friday, when Star Trek Beyond boldly returns the franchise to theaters.
