Check Out Eddie Redmayne's Favorite Fantastic Beasts Creature

As the title clearly states, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is going to feature a lot of magical creatures from the Wizarding World. This is thanks to Newt Scamander, a wizard who studies Magizoology and keeps a whole collection of these unusual creatures within his magical briefcase. While playing Newt in the Harry Potter prequel, Eddie Redmayne had to learn a lot about the "beasts" his character will track down, but his favorite of the bunch is the Bowtruckle, specifically one named Pickett. Here's one of these unusual organisms below.

Bowtruckle

In a new EW piece highlighting six of Fantastic Beasts' creatures, ranging from the mischievous Niffler to the size-changing Occamy, Redmayne discussed the Bowtruckle, a plant-like creature that's difficult to find in a natural environment. Described as a "sweet and intensely shy creature, but extremely loyal," a Bowtruckle eats insects and is great to have around if you need a lock picked. It was also the most difficult creature for the Fantastic Beasts creative team to figure out, as 200 versions were drawn until they settled on a final design. Bowtruckles were briefly mentioned in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie, but they've appeared in several video games.

Newt has four Bowtruckles he takes care of in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but as for why Eddie Redmayne likes Pickett in particular, the actor said:

Pickett has attachment issues, so Newt knows he shouldn't have favorites, but like he loves Pickett to sit in his top pocket. I felt for him quite badly.

You can head over to the main EW article to learn about the other five beasts and their abilities, but the Bowtruckle definitely ranks among the cutest of the bunch. One of these creatures was briefly seen giving New some attitude in the Fantastic Beasts featurette released in March. As for Bowtruckles may fit into the plot, if they're so good at lock-picking, than perhaps Newt will use Pickett or one of the other ones to get into a restricted room.

Bowtruckles, the other five creatures and perhaps more will be unleashed upon New York City in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them after they are accidentally freed from Newt Scamander's suitcase. Now loose in a metropolis filled with No-Majs, it will be up to Newt, his new magical allies Tina and Queenie Goldstein, as well as his No-Maj friend Jacob Kowalski, to track down these creatures, all while avoiding the wizarding authorities and a group of extremists set on killing witches and wizards.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in theaters on November 18.
