Who Gotham City Sirens May Be Eyeing To Play Poison Ivy

Following her appearance in Suicide Squad this past August, it was reported yesterday that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn will return next in Gotham City Sirens. Like the comic book series of the same name, the movie will see Harley teaming up with other notable female DC villains, and judging by a tweet from director David Ayer, it looks like her main partners will remain Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Now a day later, the first actress supposedly being eyed for the latter role is Transformers actress Megan Fox.

Megan Fox

Take this with a major grain of salt, but Bleeding Cool is reporting that Megan Fox is apparently in consideration to play Poison Ivy in Gotham City Sirens. According to the article, Fox, a longtime comic book fan, has been buying issues of Harley Quinn's pre-New 52 comic book series, specifically ones that feature Poison Ivy. Even weirder, these issues were sent to her Warner Bros Studios address. Again, this information is in no way official or guarantee that Fox obtained the part, but there is a chance that she's either being considered or is planning to audition for Poison Ivy. If cast, this wouldn't be her first DC Comics role, as she appeared in 2010's Jonah Hex as Tallulah Black (nicknamed Lilah) and voiced Lois Lane in Robot Chicken.

Operating under the assumption that Megan Fox is indeed keen in playing Poison Ivy (she expressed interest in 2014), I'm sure I'm not alone thinking that wouldn't be the smartest casting choice. Her past performances in blockbusters like the first two Transformers movies and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot series weren't great (to put it mildly), which makes it extremely unlikely that she would provide fans a faithful and compelling Poison Ivy akin to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn (costume aside). I would love to be pleasantly surprised/proven wrong, but of all the picks out there, Fox isn't the best candidate to redeem the character on the big screen following Uma Thurman's performance in Batman & Robin nearly 20 years ago, which is saying a lot! Again, though, reading some comic books doesn't guarantee she'll snag the role.

It may be a while until an official Poison Ivy casting report comes out, but suffice it to say she'll be an important character in Gotham City Sirens. Not only was she one of the leads in that comic book series, but she and Harley have shared a close relationship since the Batman: The Animated Series days. It's gotten to the point that Ivy was described by the writers of the Harley Quinn comic book series in 2015 as being in a non-monogamous relationship with the eponymous protagonist. It remains to be seen whether the DCEU versions of Harley, Ivy and Catwoman are familiar with one another before this movie or if this will be their first encounter, but hopefully we can count on Harley and Ivy staying close.

Gotham City Sirens is being "fast-tracked" for release, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on its progress.
