There are few Star Wars characters that fans have come to know and love more than Han Solo over the course of the last four decades. Harrison Ford made the character utterly iconic the moment he appeared on the big screen, and the responsibility has now fallen to Alden Ehrenreich to carry on that legacy. However, he won't be alone in this effort, as we've just learned that Woody Harrelson has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars spin-off. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller said:
The directors of the upcoming Han Solo movie issued that statement to StarWars.com, and it should pretty much tell you everything that you need to know about the tone and style of the impending Star Wars spin-off film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are known for their work on comedic projects, and they have taken any and every opportunity to keep developments related to the Han Solo movie as light-hearted as possible. Even their statement about Harrelson's involvement -- as flattering as it is -- ends with a delightful joke about ping pong. Can you imagine how much fun it must be to hang out with those three and play table tennis?
At this point, we don't know too much about the Han Solo spin-off movie's actual plot. However, recent rumors related to Woody Harrelson's involvement in the film seemed to indicate that he would play a "mentor" role to the young anti-hero. If you've ever wondered where Mr. Solo got that immense swagger, I think it's safe to say that we've finally figured it out. Maybe Harrelson's character is even the one who taught Han how to make the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs.
If you ask me, bringing Woody Harrelson on board for the Han Solo spin-off movie is a brilliant idea. As noted by the film's directors, the guy has proven time and time again that he can bring intensity and humor to his roles in equal measure, which is fairly fundamental for a movie centering on everyone's favorite Corellian scoundrel. Beyond that, Woody Harrelson has also established a strong pedigree for notable roles in major franchise films like The Hunger Games and the upcoming War For The Planet Of The Apes, which will hit theaters this summer.
Woody Harrelson merely represents the latest in a long line of great performers to join the cast of the Han Solo movie. Between Alden Ehrenreich as the titular hero, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke in an unspecified role, the Han Solo movie has developed a stacked cast that rivals any ensemble the Star Wars franchise has ever put together before. No matter what, we can pretty much guarantee that this movie will result in some truly phenomenal performances.
CinemaBlend will bring you any and all relevant details related to the development, production, and release of the Han Solo spin-off movie as more information is made available to us. The film is currently slated to hit theaters in 2018. For now, make sure to check out Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is currently still in theaters!
