It might not be getting as much attention as say, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 or Alien: Covenant, but King Arthur: Legend of Sword is hitting theaters in a little over a month. This movie is secretly becoming the craziest blockbuster of May, as Guy Ritchie's reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur includes giant monsters, magic swords, shirtless fighting, and Jude Law doing his best to Jude Law things up. The final trailer for the movie is here, and you should definitely see it for yourself. Check it out below.
The film follows the story of Arthur (Charlie Hunnam), a street tough man who manages to pull a magical sword from a stone, and learns about his past as the son of a murdered king. Said king was killed by Vortigern (Jude Law), who now rules like a tyrant. Arthur must now decide his new place in the world and if he should claim his destiny as king. The trailer shows how Arthur went from noble prince to vagabond, as he grows up on the streets before eventually pulling Excalibur free. He is then promptly arrested by Vortigern before eventually escaping with the sword.
That is as most basic a plot that can be gleaned from the trailer, but everything else is free game. The trailer is filled with tons of characters and quick shots, showing off some seriously nuts action. First and foremost is the sword Excalibur, which packs quite a wallop. Arthur uses it plenty, cutting through other swords like butter, and just blowing dudes back. It's clear what makes this sword so special and why anyone who can wield it is worthy of a kingdom.
This isn't a simple retelling, however, and there's plenty here for fantasy lovers to gander at. There's a montage of shots offering just a quick look at the more supernatural aspects of the film. Quick-eyed viewers can see what looks like dark wizards (which Jude Law seems to be also), a woman emerging from a pool of snakes, epic battles between armies, and magical beasts -- the most prominent of which is a gigantic armored elephant that lays waste to a battlefield. Okay, King Arthur, you've got my curiosity.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, and Aidan Gillen. The fantasy adventure film is due to hit theaters on May 12, 2017.
