When it comes to box office totals, the Transformers franchise is one of the biggest in the world, but a new trailer may be taking aim at the biggest film franchise of all time. A new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight has started airing in Japan, and it includes one line that has us thinking of a key moment in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. One of the most famous lines in The Force Awakens was Han Solo telling Finn and Rey "It's true, all of it." A New Transformers: The Last Knight ad tells us, "It's real, all of it."
While the line in the trailer doesn't directly match Harrison Ford's comments about the Jedi in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the line feels like it might still be making a direct reference. First, give a listen to Harrison Ford's delivery of the line in The Force Awakens.
Now, check out the new ad for Transformers: The Last Knight. The important bit comes in at about the 55 second mark.
The line is so close to identical in the trailers that it really feels like Transformers is making a Star Wars reference here, though the fact that the line isn't perfect leaves the idea open for alternatives. The fact that this random, out of context, line is in a trailer at all makes it seem like they want us to notice it, and without any idea what's being referred to, all we're thinking about is how it sounds like Star Wars. While we're not sure exactly what the Transformers line is about, it is clearly somebody coming to terms with the idea that something they didn't really believe is actually true, the same that is happening at the same moment in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Exactly what that is, may be found in the rest of the spot. The trailer focuses on the idea that the Transformers have been part of Earth's history from the beginning as it was always known there would some sort of threat to overcome. That idea is very likely exactly what is "real" in the new movie. Of course, in this case, the threat that's coming has apparently come in the form of franchise hero Optimus Prime. We've seen in other trailers that Prime appears to be brainwashed (reprogrammed?) or otherwise convinced to help destroy Earth, apparently with the goal of turning it into a new Cybertron.
We'll likely never know if Transformers: The Last Knight is making a Star Wars reference here, though well get the rest of our questions answered when Transformers: The Last Knight arrives in theaters June 21.
