Warner Bros and DC Comics are surely celebrating as Wonder Woman has broken several records, and it sounds like they're pulling out all the stops for the Blu-ray / DVD release of the film. Slated for physical release on September 19th, there's a ton of bonus features ready for eager fans to tear into the inner workings of Patty Jenkins' blockbuster film. As if that wasn't enough, there's a brand new bonus scene that's never been seen before, which will be included in select versions of the film's home video release.
Entitled "Epilogue: Etta's Mission", the scene is described as following Wonder Woman's associate, Etta Candy, and a mission that involves the rest of the surviving crew that fought alongside Diana of Themyscira, as well as the fate of our species. Other than those details, there's not much we know about this scene, other than it will give us more time with the character that we grew to know and love in the official winner of the summer blockbuster. And knowing when this film is being released on Blu-ray, there's a good idea as to what purpose this epilogue might serve.
Considering that Wonder Woman is coming to home video on September 19th, the film's revival seems to be a good time to start laying down some more foundation for the upcoming Justice League movie. This mission that could effect humanity's future could lead to the discovery of some sort of component that links into the next film in the DCEU's line-up. We're not saying it's a Mother Box... but it could be a Mother Box. So if you're really amped to see this possible lead into the next adventure Wonder Woman will be a part of, you're going to probably want to pre-order your copy now. However, there's one more thing you should consider if you want to watch this scene.
There's a catch, as Warner Bros' announcement of this new scene lists that certain formats will contain the extra scene included in Wonder Woman's home video release. "Epilogue: Etta's Mission" will be available on the Ultra HD, 3D and Blu-ray combo packed versions of the film. So if you're buying the DVD, you'll still get a select smattering of the extensive special features that are in the more premium formats, but you won't get to see this special epilogue to the events of what could possibly be the best film in the DCEU canon thus far.
DC's Extended Universe feels like it's ready to kick off a new phase in its theatrical narrative, and this new epilogue sounds like it could be the first step into a much bigger playground for the Justice League heroes. Should this be true, that's just one more thing that Wonder Woman can chalk up to its list of magnificent achievements through its glorious summer of victory. You can relive the film that captivated audiences around the world on Digital HD on August 29th, or on Ultra HD / Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray Combo Pack on September 19th. Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2019.
