Star Wars Episode IX Reportedly Won’t Separate Finn And Rey

John Boyega Daisy Ridley Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The first movie in the new Star Wars trilogy followed two brand new characters as they set off on an epic adventure together, then the sequel tore them apart. Finn and Rey were finally reunited at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and now, it sounds like the pair won't be letting each other go as the trilogy concludes. During a recent convention appearance, John Boyega admitted that while, he hasn't seen the script for Star Wars: Episode IX, Daisy Ridley apparently got some inside info, and she revealed to Boyega that their characters will be back together. According to Boyega...

I haven't read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, 'Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we're back together.' That's what I'm really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.

This is obviously great news who loved the relationship that Rey and Finn built together over the course of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The two really grew to care about each other as they found themselves on an incredible journey together and so clung to each other for support. From what we've heard both John Boyega and Daisy Ridley say, it sounds like life very much imitated art, as the pair became close friends while filming The Force Awakens.

Likewise, both the characters and the actors were challenged during Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in large part because that support structure that had been there for them both was now gone. However, having now overcome those challenges, it seems that Rey, Finn, Daisy, and John, will all be rewarded by being able to be together again in Star Wars: Episode IX. Boyega told the crowd at Washington D.C.'s Awesome Con (via Slashfilm) that he is most excited about working with Daisy again.

At this point, it's anybody's guess what that script for Episode IX has in store for our heroes. Things are looking pretty dire as the entire Resistance to the First Order fits inside the Millennium Falcon. If things pick up shortly after The Last Jedi ended, the remaining heroes will have their work cut out for them, even if they have had hope reignited within them thanks to Luke Skywalker. People will probably be looking to Rey a lot as the best chance to defeat Kylo Ren. Rey will probably looking to Finn for support with all of her new expectations.

We've got a year and a half to wait to see Rey and Finn together again. Until then, we have the previous entries in the trilogy, as well as the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, that will be here in just about a month to keep Star Wars excitement going.
