A beloved franchise will come to an end next year when How to Train your Dragon: The Hidden World debuts. The series has continuously pulled at the heartstrings of fans ever since it kicked off back in 2010, and now fans can look forward to a seriously epic conclusion full of adventure and romance when Hiccup and Toothless set sail for one more outing. On that note, a trailer for the upcoming threequel has finally debuted, and it promises a remarkable finale to this thrilling trilogy. Check out the preview, below!
So, it's clear that things have most certainly changed in the How to Train Your Dragon world. On the heels of their previous adventure, Hiccup and Toothless have helped to create a utopia for the people of Berk. However, things get complicated for our heroes when Hiccup, Toothless, and Astrid stumble upon a Light Fury dragon and a mysterious threat to their very way of life. From there, they go on an adventure to discover a never-before-seen world (hence "The Hidden World") and change the course of their kingdom forever.
One element that we already know the film will touch upon is the history of the dragons and the underlying mythology behind the species. Director Dean DeBlois opened up about the film's plot during the development of the script a few years ago and noted that the wanted to explore the mystery of the dragons and where they ultimately went. Based on what we see between Toothless and the Light Fury dragon in this trailer, it seems clear that this idea remains on the table.
In addition to this brand-new trailer for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, a poster has also been released as well. You can check out the artwork, below!
The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is in a unique position that not every film series gets to use these days. Specifically, despite rumors of a fourth installment that circulated a few years ago, director Dean DeBlois and the folks behind the series know that this will be the final outing in the How to Train Your Dragon canon. This means that they can close out the series in a way that ties off loose narrative threads and punctuate the story of Hiccup and Toothless in a way that feels earned. We don't know precisely what that means just yet, but that trailer clearly seems to suggest that How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will deliver all of the intense action, emotion, and humor that many fans have come to expect from the series over the course of its previous two installments.
