How To See The Lego Movie 2 Early

Just like The Lego Movie did back in 2014, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will screen to the masses in February, reuniting folks with Emmet, Wyldstyle and the rest of the gang five years after they defeated Lord Business. However, if you're a particularly big fan of The Lego Movie and don't want to wait until opening day to the sequel, you're in luck, because the movie is screening early this weekend.
Warner Bros announced today that it is holding a special advance screening of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part in the afternoon this Saturday, January 26, one where you can "bring out the kids, or just bring out the kid in yourself." In other words, you'll have the opportunity to see The Lego Movie 2 two weeks early. This sneak preview will be the culmination of "Awesome Week," which is using "movie-themed activities and activations" to build anticipation for The Lego Movie 2. Tickets for this limited preview, which is happening in approximately 500 theaters across North America, will go on sale tomorrow at participating theaters and regular online outlets.
While normally it's rare that the average moviegoer can catch a highly anticipated movie early, but The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is the latest example in recent months of studios holding special screenings days or weeks before the public premiere. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee and Aquaman all had early screenings (the latter two as part of an Amazon Prime promotion), Glass was shown at Alamo Drafthouse locations on January 12 as part of a marathon showing Unbreakable and Split beforehand and How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World will also screen early on February 2 as part of a Fandango event. The Lego Movie 2 is one of the biggest family-friendly releases of 2019, so I can't blame Warner Bros for wanting to get in front of some eyes a few weeks ahead of time to get word of mouth buzz going... assuming it's good, of course.
Although we revisited the Lego Movie-verse twice in 2017 with The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will pick up where the first movie left off, with the Duplo invading Bricksburg. Half a decade later, the once-pleasant city has turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland and everyone within it hardened. Well, everyone except Emmet, but he'll be put to the test once more after his friends are kidnapped by General Sweet Mayhem by order of Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi, who has allied herself with the Duplo. Venturing into space, Emmet will team up with intergalactic hero Rex Dangervest to save his friends.
If you're unable to see The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part early, you can catch it with everyone else when it hits theaters on February 8. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage about the sequel, and don't forget to look through our 2019 release schedule beforehand.
