Coming off of Creed II, Sylvester Stallone said he was done playing Rocky Balboa. Now the actor is returning to yet another of his popular characters for, based on the movie's title, what will be the last time. Rambo: Last Blood recently wrapped filming and the star has shared some new images of the film which help set the stage for the drama to come. Check out some of the images below.
Sylvester Stallone released a series of black and white images on Instagram that show him along with a couple of his co-stars in what are apparently shots from early in the movie. Along with the pictures, Stallone sets up the way that Rambo: Last Blood will begin, and how that will draw John Rambo back into conflict.
Yvette Monreal will play the role of Gabriella. She's apparently a close friend or adopted family for John Rambo. She wants to go from Arizona to Mexico in order to learn why her estranged father left. While Rambo thinks this is a bad idea, it seems Gabriella will go anyway. Whether Rambo decides to go with her in an attempt to keep her safe, or ends up going after her after things go south, is not clear.
What little we had known about the plot of Rambo: Last Blood prior to now reportedly had Rambo going up against a Mexican drug cartel. Assuming that all remains true, then it would seem Gabriella's trip into Mexico is what brings the cartel into the picture.
If you looking for images of John Rambo being, well, Rambo, that's not what these pictures are about. We see a much older man who has clearly left his violent life behind and just wants to be left alone.
Sylvester Stallone introduced John Rambo back in 1982 in the movie First Blood. We met Rambo as a Vietnam War veteran who was going through troubles of his own when he came up against corrupt law enforcement in a small town. From there, the rest of the Rambo franchise became a much more straight forward action series with Rambo taking on armies in foreign lands.
Rambo: Last Blood feels like it's trying to capture the more personal feel of the original film, from the shift to fighting a drug cartel, to the intentional reference in that title in this movie, it looks like Last Blood may be trying to wrap up the franchise by focusing more on the man than the action.
Which is not to say that we don't expect Rambo: Last Blood to be short on action. There will certainly be plenty of that.
When we'll get to see more of Rambo: Last Blood is anybody's guess. The movie is tentatively scheduled to release this year, but no specific date has yet been set.
