See Jurassic World’s New Short Film Battle At Big Rock

It's going to be almost two years before we see the the next full chapter in the Jurassic World story, but a new short film has just given us a first look at what a world filled with dinosaurs and humans together would look like. Battle at Big Rock debuted last night on television and is now available online. It gives us a glimpse into what the world is like following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and, as you might expect, dinosaurs living among humans doesn't go all that well for the humans.

At the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom dinosaurs are released into the forests of Northern California. While the creatures are not exactly ubiquitous, humanity has now begun to try and figure out how to deal with this new existence. Check out the complete Battle at Big Rock below.

Battle at Big Rock opens with the sound of news reports. We learn that dinosaurs have been among humans for some time, and they've even begun to multiply. However, for one family on a camping trip, it seems there's no expectation that they might run in to dinosaurs. When the campground goes quiet nobody is quite expecting a Triceratops family to come wandering through.

And yet, that's what happens. At first its not necessarily that big a deal, these dinos don't eat meat and so the family we're watching all this with just has to wait it out. But then, an Allosaurus appears and the humans find themselves in the middle of a battle for survival.

The finale of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom created a new status quo for the universe, and one that the Jurassic Park franchise as a whole likely should have explored much sooner. What happens when dinosaurs truly begin to roam the earth once again?

This is a great addition to the Jurassic World franchise as it gives us a glimpse of the world that we're going to be jumping into when Jurassic World 3 arrives in a couple years. One of the news reports we hear asks the question if this is the "new normal" and it seems quite likely that the answer to that question will be yes.

When Jurassic World 3 hits screens we'll have a film that once again focuses on characters played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, the people best equipped to deal with dinosaurs, having been part of Jurassic Park. This short film shows us how everyday people are dealing with this new threat. Not well.

Also, if you didn't already, make sure you watch through the credits of Battle at Big Rock, as they include brief clips of home video style footage showing more everyday people dealing with dinosaurs. These bits are more humorous than dangerous, which is a nice pallet cleanser following the terror of the film itself.

We'll see the nextrchapter of the story, assuming there aren't any more secret short movies waiting in the wings, when Jurassic World 3 hits theaters in 2021.
