After four years as a couple and a two-year engagement, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have reportedly decided to break off their relationship and call it quits. J-Lo and the 51-year-old retired Major League Baseball player had previously postponed their wedding day two times prior to Friday’s news of the couple going their separate ways.

Lopez and Rodriguez were last seen together in a loving embrace in the Dominican Republic on Instagram just last month, but A-Rod has since returned to Miami to get ready for baseball season whilst J-Lo remains in the Caribbean filming her movie Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel. PageSix first reported the breakup, and ET apparently confirmed via sources close to the couple.

According to the source, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez decided that their relationship “had run its course,” and J-Lo decided not to move forward with her longtime fiancé when Rodriguez’s “character has been called into question.” The Hustlers star recently opened up about seeking couples therapy with A-Rod since COVID-19 lockdowns forced the busy couple to slow down and focus on their relationship and family more closely.

In February, Lopez said taking a step back with the MLB pro was “really helpful” for their relationship at the time. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had both merged both their families under the same roof, with Lopez raising her 12-year-old twins Max and Emme with A-Rod’s two daughters 12-year-old Ella and 16-year-old Natasha.

The pandemic previously forced the couple to postpone their planned 2020 wedding twice. It was originally going to take place in Italy, and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had to throw away “months and months and months” of planning, per Lopez’s Allure interview.

The split comes after recent rumors of Alex Rodriguez FaceTiming with Southern Charm reality star Madison LeCroy. Following relationship allegations, the 30-year-old clarified that she had not met Rodriguez in person last month and the ex-baseball player also confirmed that they had only “spoken on the phone.” Though this detail could explain the questionable comment by the ET source.

Back in January, A-Rod shared that the wedding postponement had been “really sad” and a “little disappointment,” but had high hopes that the “third time’s the charm” between the pair. Both Rodriguez and Lopez have been married and divorced before, A-Rod was previously with psychology graduate Cynthia Scurtis from 2002 to 2008, and Lopez has three ex-husbands: Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003 and Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014 before the latest planned marriage.

Ultimately breakups are a personal matter, and at this point, we cannot be certain of why Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez's split at this time. Although we won’t see the actress in white for wedding photos, she has two wedding-themed movies coming out in the near future. Marry Me with Owen Wilson and Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel, which she is currently busy filming in the Dominican Republic.
