Subscribe To Denzel Washington Could Star With Mark Wahlberg In 2 Guns Updates
A few years back the comic book adaptation of Steven Grant and Mat Santolouco's 2 Guns had two of the biggest names in comedy looking to star. It was reported that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, who famously played off each other in David Dobkin's Wedding Crashers, were interested in playing the leads of the film, which centers on a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer that are instructed to rob a bank together only to find out that they are actually stealing from the CIA. That, however, was nearly two years ago and now it's looking like the movie has moved in a very different direction.

According to Deadline, Denzel Washington is now in early talks to join Mark Wahlberg as the star of 2 Guns. Baltasar Kormakur, who recently directed Contraband with Wahlberg, is attached to direct the film with a script by Blake Masters (Law & Order: LA). The project is still in the development stage and is working to find financing, but already has Universal signed on to distribute the film in North America and it's considered one of the hottest titles at the European Film Market in Berlin. Washington, who has Safe House coming out this week, recently completed work on Robert Zemeckis' Flight while Wahlberg has completed filming for Allen Hughes' Broken City.

The Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson news came in October 2010, so I'd be fascinated to learn how much the script has changed since then. Have the comedy elements been toned down while the action elements have been pumped up? Part of me kind of wishes that the script hasn't been changed at all and that Washington will be playing the Vaughn part and Wahlberg will be doing his best Wilson. One can only imagine what the result of that would be.
