In the past, hosts of late-night shows banked on laughs from gender-normative jokes about Bruce Jenner, whose changing appearance on Keeping Up with the Kardashians had tabloids asking questions. During a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Caitlyn Jenner brought up the subject and even got an apology. Watch the interaction here:
Caitlyn Jenner emphasized the words "some jokes," indicating the abundance of cracks entertainers took at her expense during the first half of her transition. At first, Caitlyn Jenner laughed and teased Jimmy Kimmel for apologizing now that times have changed. But then Jenner graciously accepted Kimmel's apology.
The subject matter of the interview softened when Caitlyn Jenner talked about how Jimmy Kimmel lives across the street from her supermodel daughter, Kendall Jenner. Caitlyn Jenner urged Kimmel to keep an eye on Kendall Jenner's house, but Kimmel said the only thing he sees happening there is the appearance of clothes. The moment was a nice reprieve from the touchy issue of painful punchlines from the past.
It is great Caitlyn Jenner is moving forward. Transgender issues have a long road ahead, so it is good to see dialogue happening.
