Looks Like The Spice Girls Aren't Going On Tour After All

spice world blu-ray cover

It's only been a few days since we learned that the Spice Girls were seemingly going on tour. At the time, the news seemed as if it was pretty well a done deal, and the Spice Girls even shared a message about meeting together and exploring "incredible new opportunities together." Regardless, the tour now seems to be off, as Victoria Beckham is saying the idea is dead in the water, and may never have been an idea at all. The former Spice Girl bluntly spoke out during a preview of her 2018 collection, noting,

I'm not going on tour. The girls aren't going on tour.

Previously, the girls did have a reunion, although it wasn't a tour reunion. They met for lunch a little over a week ago, also meeting with the guy who had managed them at the time, who just so happens to be Simon Fuller. Per the report, the group was meeting about going on tour later this year. Although new music wasn't expected to be involved, the tour itself seemed like a likelihood.

Per Vogue, Victoria Beckham clarified her comments further, agreeing that the group had met, but that they had only gotten together in order to explore idea about what the future could hold. She said:

There's something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming.

Vogue? More like vague, amiright? What the heck were they brainstorming about if not touring? Reissuing music? Merchandise opportunities? Another TV opportunity? Just reminiscing in an incredibly weird way that led to a statement being issued about new opportunities? The statement released at the time of the lunch meeting read:

We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for the Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of the Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.

In the past, Victoria Beckham has been the Spice Girl who hasn't wanted to come back for another reunion tour, so it makes sense that she was the one to make the announcement this time around. We'll let you know if the Spice Girls ever do officially have a reunion or other "incredible new opportunities" on the horizon. In the meantime, you can check out Victoria Beckham's new work via her fashion line, and remember the Spice Girls and their wardrobe malfunctions fondly.
