There are people out there who will tell you the Mariah Carey/ Nicki Minaj feud has been orchestrated in order to reinvigorate American Idol, and there are others out there who will tell you the two women legitimately despise each other. A look at the history of reality television would point toward the former, but sources close to the show’s producers have been saying they’re not pleased because Mariah could hypothetically bail, leaving the entire production in an awful spot. Today, the producers of the competition program decided to release a statement to clarify their point of view. Not surprisingly, it clears up nothing whatsoever.

You can take a look at the producers’ comments below, courtesy of ABC News
“We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can’t imagine a better group to find the next American Idol. Despite all the accusations and media speculation — much of which is inaccurate — production is going extremely well today and the judges are focused on finding the best talent here in Baton Rouge.”

I’m usually convinced every reality show feud has been contrived by producers, but this mess feels real to me. These death threats and personal attacks have gone beyond what the show may have asked the women to do. There’s no way either would have agreed to be continually slandered were it not happening for real. Plus, there were rumors of animosity before Nicki even officially signed up for the show.

There’s still plenty of time to go before American Idol premieres. Expect even the slightest incidents between the judges to become huge news stories until that point.
