Florida Guard Erving Walker Charged With Stealing Taco, Running From Police

Florida guard Erving Walker’s collegiate career might have come to an end following an impressive run in the NCAA tournament earlier this month, but his run from police officers was decidedly less impressive early this morning. The twenty-two-year-old senior reportedly ordered a three dollar taco from a local street vender in Gainesville but left without paying. Authorities noticed the incident and told him to return, but Walker reportedly fled into the night.

According to ESPN, the subsequent chase quickly attracted the attention of more police officers who pursued both on foot and in vehicles. A few blocks later, Walker was caught and arrested. At the station, he was later booked for theft and resisting an officer, despite his claim that he was “just playing around”.

Clearly, the fact that the taco only cost three dollars lends credence to his argument that he was just “playing around”, but unfortunately for him, there’s nothing really funny about stealing from an honest street vender. That’s just poor form, and given the result, very stupid. Plus, it’s not like Erving Walker isn’t very recognizable. He was a four year contributor on the Florida basketball team, and while football will always be king there, the basketball players aren’t exactly anonymous chumps.

More than likely, Walker will wind up with a fine and perhaps a bit of community service, but if something comes of this, we’ll be sure to bring you the details. Until then, be advised that it’s probably a good idea to pay for your food, no matter how cheap it might be.
