Over the weekend, Halle Berry gave birth to her second child, her first with new husband Olivier Martinez. Almost immediately, fans were informed the child was a) male and b) healthy, but much to the general public’s chagrin, no information was released about the little boy’s name. A few days later, the family has finally let the secret out of the bag, and well, it was worth the wait.

According to TMZ, Halle and Olivier have named their son Maceo Robert Martinez. It means gift of God, and it’s of Spanish origin. Neither of the parents has spoken publically about their choice, but considering Olivier’s father is named Robert and is of Spanish origin, it seems pretty likely that it’s one giant tribute to him, which is actually pretty adorable.

On the one hand, it’s easy to see why Halle and Olivier would go with Maceo. It’s got a certain old world grace about it, but yet it doesn’t feel so archaic that it can’t be made modern. It’s original without being too bizarre, and it’s very possible this kid will grow up and love his handle. On the other hand, however, Maceo almost seems like it’s trying too hard. There are similar, more modern versions of the same name (Matteo/ Matthew), and no doubt people will have trouble pronouncing the choice for the rest of the boy’s life.
