Jason Kidd Arrested After Crashing His Escalade

Jason Kidd’s tenure with the New York Knicks isn’t exactly going as planned thus far. The future Hall of Famer reached a verbal agreement with the storied franchise back on July 5, supposedly to act as a mentor to promising youngster Jeremy Lin. Unfortunately, the point guard later signed an offer sheet with the Houston Rockets and rumor has it the Knicks will not match it. Whether or not Kidd would have signed had he know that is unclear, but regardless, he now has bigger issues to deal with.

According to ESPN, the former Maverick was involved in a single car accident early this morning in Southampton. His 2010 Cadillac Escalade apparently collided with a poll, and when police arrived, they quickly arrested Kidd and later charged him with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. After being processed, Kidd was reportedly released on his own recognizance but will be due back in court to answer the charges in the coming weeks.

Thus far, he hasn’t released any kind of comment to the press, but one would imagine either he or his agent would do that shortly. Kidd has long been known as a hard worker who is the epitome of professionalism. At thirty-nine, you wouldn’t think he’d be getting up to such shenanigans, but I guess he had a bad night.

We’ll keep you updated as the case winds its way through the court system. Don’t expect any jail time.
