One Track Sunday: Colt Ford Drives Around With Danica Patrick

All-around weirdo, rapper, and country music singer Colt Ford has been making a name for himself over the last several years. Following the release of his fourth studio album, Declaration of Independence, in 2012, the 43-year-old has become even more prominent, and he has put together a splashy statement video for “Drivin’ Around Song.”

The video is memorable not because of its topic, which follows two good folks driving around and enjoying a day in the south, but because of its stars, which include Ford, of course, but also female American auto racer Danica Patrick and Patrick’s boyfriend, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The video tells the story of a young woman who is waiting for a mechanic to fix her car. It’s taking quite a while, so she sneakily nabs his UTV keys, grabs Ford—who is also conveniently hanging out at the mechanic’s—and hits the road, encountering plenty of grassy landscapes and lovely ladies along the way.

”Danica

The song is a fun one if you are into both rap and country, as Ford uses his skills with rhyme to get through the verses and he enlists the help of country singer Jason Aldean to add more than a little flair to the chorus—which is needed, since this isn’t the most exciting song Ford has ever put together. The song has done decently so far, hitting the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, but not quite charting. However, adding Danica Patrick to the video should earn it a few extra page views.

The third single might not be the best track on the album, but Declaration of Independence is worth checking out. You can pre-order the album over at iTunes, or check out the video for another single from the record, “Back,” below.
