Shakira Attacked By Sea Lion In Cape Town

Shakira’s recent trip to Cape Town was meant to be a relaxing way to unwind, but the excursion turned scary and utterly bizarre in a hurry. The pop star was on a guided tour with her brother and some friends to check out some seals when she decided to take a picture of a few sea lions lingering beneath the water. As she reached down to pet one of them, the creature jumped out of the water and attacked. Panicked and paralyzed with fear, Shakira stood motionless before she was pulled out of the way by her brother Tony.

Remember when you were a little kid and your mother told you not to pet strange dogs? This is a good example of why that advice should stay with you when you grow up. Nature might look all cute and cuddly, but it doesn’t always behave the way we’d like it to, especially when Blackberrys are involved. At least that’s what Shakira blamed the frightening situation on in a detailed Facebook message. You can take a look at the excerpt below…

I believe what happened is that it confused the shiny reflection of the blackberry I was taking these pics with, with some sort of fish. It probably thought I was teasing it with food and then taking it away from it. Wow! It's funny that only half an hour before I was complaining to my guide Andrew that I never get to see wild animals up close on adventurous trips. Oh well, I can't say that anymore!!

I’ve never had a run-in with a sea lion before, but thanks to Shakira, I will now be prepared. I’d suggest you file this story somewhere in the back of your brain too. There’s no reason to be unprepared.
