The breakout new hit of the 2016-2017 TV season had to be NBC's This Is Us, which earned massive ratings despite reducing viewers to tears from the time the very first trailer hit the web. The first season was filled with emotional highs and lows from beginning to end, and there's been something of a void ever since the finale back in March. We still have a while to wait before the second season kicks off, but the show just released a new video to get us back in the mood for This Is Us. Check it out!
Did you cry? We cried. That old familiar feeling of slight dehydration came back as the waterworks started yet again. The This Is Us team apparently knows how to pluck at the heartstrings as easily in four minutes as it does in regular hour-long episodes. Of course, the crazy high ratings for the first season meant that a ton of people were obviously touched by the stories of the Pearson family, but there's a difference between knowing the incredible ratings numbers and hearing the stories of those who connected with the characters on a very personal level. Even the actors couldn't keep a dry eye.
The video of Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, and Sterling Brown watching the personal stories being told and then surprising their fans with the hugs of a lifetime was exactly the kind of heartwarming material that many fans undoubtedly needed after a couple months of hiatus. I have to wonder if any of those fans who shared their stories recovered enough to ask the actors to spill the details on Jack's death.
It should be interesting to see if This Is Us fares differently with fans in Season 2 than it did in Season 1. NBC recently released its schedule for this fall, and we now know that This Is Us will be moving from Tuesdays to Thursdays. Nobody at the show needs to worry about cancellation any time soon, however. This Is Us scored a renewal for Seasons 2 and 3 back when Season 1 was still unfolding. Not many shows land multi-season renewals after only one season, so it's safe to say that NBC had a lot of faith in what the Pearson family brings to the small screen.
This Is Us will return to NBC this fall on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
