Epic New Agents Of SHIELD Trailer Has Us Worried About One Major Character, Watch It Now

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its fifth season in just a couple more weeks, and footage of what's to come has finally been released. The first look was released back with the Inhumans season finale, and now a brand new trailer has hit the web to give an even closer look at the threats facing our not-so-merry band of agents. One major character is conspicuously missing from the new trailer, however, and we're already worried about him. Take a look!

The good Dr. Fitz is nowhere to be seen in the new trailer for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5. Fans will remember that he was part of the group that was seemingly captured and abducted in the final minutes of the Season 4 finale back in May. In the trailer, we get at least a quick glimpse of all the other agents who had been present in the diner before they were whisked away to outer space. Coulson, May, Daisy, Simmons, Mack, and Elena can all be seen; Fitz simply doesn't seem to be present. Poor Fitz has had a rough ride over the years of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.; could the worst have finally happened?

On the one hand, revealing that Fitz' fate after the Season 4 finale is unknown to even the agents would be a great way to build suspense for Season 5, even if it is a bit of a rough plot twist for Fitz. His absence in the trailer could point toward S.H.I.E.L.D. keeping him off-screen for a while. The show did something similar with Simmons back in Season 2 when she infiltrated Hydra. Perhaps Fitz has a major plot that will be revealed a little ways down the line. Could he have been killed? Sure. We should probably worry about him. But whatever happened to him could make for a truly compelling story.

On the other hand, Fitz could very well be alive and in the mix when Season 5 kicks off. Perhaps he merely wasn't present in the action-packed scenes that were selected for the trailer. After all, as an exceptional engineer, his services might have been put to better use elsewhere than fighting monstrous aliens. Simmons didn't seem overly emotional in any of her appearances in the trailer, and we can bet that she'd be visibly devastated if something confirmed had happened to Fitz.

All of this said, maybe Fitz was simply not taken into outer space with the rest of the agents. While he was certainly with them when they were seemingly abducted in the Season 4 finale, he could have been left behind or held back for some other purpose. If he remained on Earth while his lady love and the rest of his pals were taken to space, it would explain how Hunter is re-entering the mix.

Unless Hunter too was somehow abducted and trapped in outer space, he'll probably return to the S.H.I.E.L.D. action on Earth. Fitz could reasonably turn to Hunter after losing all of his other allies, although he probably won't be able to reunite with Bobbi as well. A Fitz on Earth would undoubtedly try just about anything to locate his missing friends. After all, he did dive through a hole in the universe for Simmons. Fitz and Hunter together could be fun as well as logical.

Fitz or no Fitz, Season 5 is clearly going to be a wild ride. The trailer features the Kree, aliens, new characters, and the agents we've come to know and love dealing with unexpected circumstances. We have a lot to look forward to when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on a brand new night. The two-hour Season 5 premiere of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on Friday, December 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
