I’m not completely up on what the popular music is these days but I still love the VMA’s. Why? Because the artist pull out all the stops with their performances and there always seems to be a few shocking or unplanned moments. The 2009 VMA’s delivered in both respects and we have some video highlights to share with you.

Madonna’s introductory speech, paying tribute to Michael Jackson was a little lengthy but very eloquent and worth checking out if you didn’t see it:

Kanye West, displeased with the results of Best Female Video, stole Taylor Swift’s thunder by taking the stage and her microphone. Apparently he’s already apologized about it on his blog (which is down right now).

For Pink’s performance of “Sober,” she spent most of the time up in the air swinging around doing a truly impressive trapeze act while she sang. Even if it was a lip-sync performance (it was hard to tell), it was still very cool.
