Hulu's The Looming Tower Trailer Is Powerful And Sobering

September 11th, 2001 is not a date most Americans will forget. And while a few films and shows have tackled that day and the time following, very few have approached the time leading up to it. Hulu's new series The Looming Tower does exactly that, and features actors like Jeff Daniels and Alec Baldwin looking to tell the tales of those who may have seen the tragedy coming. The first trailer for the limited series just hit the web, and as one might expect, it's powerful, sobering, and looks like it will make for some great television.

As previously mentioned, The Looming Tower is set in the weeks leading up to 9/11, and focuses on the FBI and CIA and how their rivalry may have inadvertently contributed the destruction of the Twin Towers. Putting a spotlight on one of the lesser-told stories following the infamous terrorist attack, the limited series will focus on real-life figures such as Ali Soufan, John O'Neill, and Richard A. Clarke. These key people and more will come into play as The Looming Tower looks to retell the story over the course of 10 episodes, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Lawrence Wright.

As one might have gathered from the trailer, The Looming Tower has a very strong cast with Jeff Daniels featured prominently throughout. Daniels portrays former FBI agent John O'Neill, who at the time studied the movements of al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. O'Neill would eventually exit the FBI, only to become head of security at the World Trade Center shortly before 9/11. O'Neill's story is just one of the many that The Looming Tower will tell, which feel as riveting as they are shocking.

The Looming Tower is yet another entry in what will be a year packed with original content for Hulu. It's still too early to tell, but with The Looming Tower and other Hulu dramas looking to make a splash on streaming, the service could be poised to have another good run at the Emmy's later this year. Of course, the actual series still hasn't even been released yet, so maybe that conversation should resume after folks have seen The Looming Tower. After that, then folks can judge if the limited series lives up to the hype it creates in this trailer.

The Looming Tower (opens in new tab) premieres on Hulu Wednesday, February 28 at 12:01 p.m. ET.
