The Interesting Way Grey’s Anatomy Is Keeping Up With The New Interns

Episode 1 of The B Team

There are successful and long running TV shows, and there's Grey's Anatomy. ABC's medical drama is currently in the midst of its whopping 14th season on the network, and is showing no signs of slowing down. With a firefighter spinoff currently in development, there are plenty of ways that the world of Seattle is being expanded for the millions of Grey's fans out there. And now it looks like this season's new cast of interns is getting a little spotlight of their own. Specifically, they're starring in a webseries called Grey's Anatomy: B-Team, which will allow the fandom to properly know the group of interns who we'll see occasionally getting bullied by Meredith throughout the original series.

Grey's Anatomy: B-Team is a six episode companion series to Grey's Anatomy, which is currently streaming in its entirety on ABC's official website. The series follows the new set of interns on their very first day at the hospital, similar to how the original series began back in 2005. Each episode is around 2:30 long, allowing all six to be easily binged by modern audiences. Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew (aka April Kepner) actually made her directorial debut by helming all six installments.

Because B-Team is set within the confines of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, plenty of Grey's stars also pop up throughout the course of the season. Guest appearances include Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers, Kelly McCreary, Kevin McKidd, and James Pickens Jr as the surgeons we know and love. However, the series largely stars the interns that we've seen running around the background of Season 14's fall episodes.

The new class of interns debuted in Season 14's premiere episode "Break Down The House". With Richard Webber once again in charge of the intern program, he was tasked with bringing in fresh talent to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Ultimately he got a motley crew of newbies, one of which slept with Jo after on of their first days, and another who has a history with DeLuca.

The first few season of Grey's Anatomy were very much focused on the interns. Our group of OG characters were the lowest of low in the surgical program, and we watched as characters like Cristina and Izzie competed for surgeries while navigating their interpersonal drama. Since Grey's has been running for so long on ABC, the audience has watched the doctors become the best surgeons in the country, with Meredith even winning the coveted Harper Avery Award. Unfortunately, there was plenty of loss along the way, with Izzie dropping out and George being killed off.

Grey's Anatomy is set to return next week on January 18, 2018, picking up after the cliffhanger from the midseason finale. In the meantime, check out our midseason premiere list to plan your next binge watch, and our cancellation list to see if your favorite show got the chop last year.
