Headlines about USA's lawyer drama Suits have recently been riddled with so much royal wedding talk, character exits, and spinoff developments that the show's mega casting addition for Season 8 was almost buried. Grey's Anatomy vet Katherine Heigl joined the cast as attorney Samantha Wheeler, and the actress looks ready to kick ass both hypothetically and literally, in her new digs. Check out a first look at the new character in Season 8 as she is getting her hands wrapped up in the gym.

Katherine Heigl's Samantha Wheeler was teased as a character who will challenge the status quo of the firm, but no one specifically mentioned the possibility of her physically confronting her foes in the squared circle! Heigl added some additional information on Samantha in her Instagram description and said her Suits character is "no shrinking violet," and that she's a "girl with gumption." No doubt Wheeler will be a fiery addition to Pearson Specter Litt when she makes her series debut in Season 8, which will see a lot of other changes coming.

A fiery addition like Samantha Wheeler is just what Suits will need, since the show will be without its longtime leads Mike and Rachel when Season 8 premieres. Katherine Heigl may allegedly not be the easiest actress to work with in Hollywood, but there's no denying that her star power alone can potentially make up for the void left by two of the series' core cast leaving the show. Admittedly, Heigl's non-Grey's TV output has been spotty in terms of ratings, so there are no guarantees, but Suits has been around long enough that it should be fine.

Katherine Heigl sitting on the edge of a kickboxing ring is the first look at Suits Season 8 fans have gotten, and is another piece to the puzzle regarding what the series' new season will focus on. Prior to Heigl's picture, it had been revealed that Katrina Bennett would be returning to the series as a series regular to play the formerly recurring character Amanda Schull. Heigl will also be joined by quasi-newcomer Dule Hill, who appeared as Alex Williams in the first half of Season 7. All these fresh faces could make Suits feel like a brand new show heading into Season 8, which might be the best thing that can happen to a veteran series.

Suits airs on USA on Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET. The show still has a way to go until Season 8, so fans wishing for something to watch in the meantime can busy themselves by checking out our midseason premiere guide and summer premiere guide.
