Dan Aykroyd is dipping into the world of the paranormal once again, and no, this isn't yet another Ghostbusters reboot. Instead Aykroyd will be involved in a show that highlights the paranormal encounters of the real world, though presumably the strangeness won't be in subjects' neighborhoods. Prepare for spooks and surprises while strangers are on sabbatical, as Hotel Paranormal is coming to the Travel Channel.
As the name suggests, Hotel Paranormal is about "terrifying true stories" of people who have had a strange encounter with an otherworldly presence while staying in a hotel. The series features 10 one-hour episodes highlighting different subjects and stories, and will be narrated by Dan Aykroyd. Aykroyd released a statement on joining the series, and what he hopes to accomplish in being a part of Hotel Paranormal.
As a longtime believer in ghosts, I think the incredible encounters we’re highlighting on Hotel Paranormal will open up a lot of minds and hopefully break through some of the skepticism people carry about the paranormal. I’m excited to lend my voice to help bring viewers across the United States, these gripping real-life ghost stories, many of which take place in their own backyards.
The premiere episode will feature a traveling salesman who documented paranormal activity with his cell phone, and somehow became possessed with the spirit of a murderer. Another part of the premiere will feature teens on a field trip to the Vatican who unleashed an ancient evil, and a journalist who fought off the supernatural in a New England inn. The premiere episode is set to air Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Keep in mind, ghost aficionados, that's just the premiere. Hotel Paranormal is primed to tell all sorts of stories both horrifying and bizarre, and potentially encourage some viewers to cancel their hotel reservations. I'm especially interested in the story of the porter who had to fight off a murderous pirate, if only because I'm still not over that scene in Ghostbusters II where the Titanic showed up.
Dan Aykroyd isn't just a good pick for Hotel Paranormal because of his Ghostbusters past, but also because of his family history. Aykroyd comes from a long line of Spiritualists, who believe the spirits of the dead exist and try to communicate with the living. Hotel Paranormal is his latest endeavor in exposing the paranormal to the world, but not his first. Aykroyd was the host of the Canadian television show Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, which told stories based on the activities of the "Office of Scientific Investigation and Research."
Be sure to catch Hotel Paranormal on Travel Channel Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 p.m. ET. As always, be sure to stick with CinemaBlend for all the latest news happening in television and movies.
