Marvel Studios Just Announced A Bunch Of Disney+ Shows, Including Samuel L. Jackson's Secret Invasion

Nick Fury Marvel

The MCU may have been forced to the sidelines for the most part in 2020, but it's going to return with a "Fury." Marvel unveiled new information on previously announced shows headed to Disney+, and went ahead and blew everyone's mind with the announcement of additional shows.

This includes some of the MCU's most beloved characters like Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, and an adaptation of one of Marvel Comic's most prolific arcs with Secret Invasion. Other mentioned shows include someone new, someone old, and someone who was old but now he's new again, I guess. Let's dive in and get psyched together for the future of Marvel on Disney+.

Secret Invasion Marvel Disney+

Secret Invasion

That's right, Marvel will bring back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury for Secret Invasion. In Marvel Comics, the limited storyline involved a secret plot in which Skrulls had secretly replaced and were posing as some of the world's greatest heroes. As such Ben Mendelsohn will appear in the series as the Skrull Talos, a role he played both in Captain Marvel and briefly in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It's unclear at this time whether or not the events of Secret Invasion will take place in the time after Avengers: Endgame or if the invasion has been happening as far back as Captain Marvel when the Skrulls made their MCU debut.

Ironheart Marvel Disney+

Ironheart

Disney+ will also introduce a new character comic fans know well in a new series called Ironheart. The series, titled after the mantle given to young genius Riri Williams, will be a series about the creator of the most-advanced suit of armor since Tony Stark made his armor to become Iron Man. If Beale Street Could Talk's Dominique Thorne has been tapped to play the lead role of Riri, a character who could absolutely crossover to the larger MCU.

Armor Wars Marvel Disney+

Armor Wars

The big names keep pouring in as Disney+ will welcome Don Cheadle to reprise his role as James Rhodes, a.k.a. War Machine. Rhodie will appear in the series Armor Wars, a story in which the technology of Tony Stark will fall into the wrong hands. My assumption is he's not talking about Spider-Man, who was the heir to a chunk of Stark's technology in Spider-Man: Far From Home. This series could certainly further flesh out the MCU post-Stark's death, provided it's directly related to the MCU.

I Am Groot Show Logo Marvel Disney+

I Am Groot

Last, but certainly not least, Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to Disney+ for a series. Well, one of them is anyway as Baby Groot is set to get his own short-form series I Am Groot. This series is said to feature several unusual characters, though we're left to speculate on who or what will appear.

Be sure to stick with CinemaBlend for more on these series as they continue their development for release on Disney+. Also, be sure to stay tuned for the slew of Marvel content on the way, and all our thoughts and reactions to what should be a big year for Disney.
