The Big Interview With Dan Rather Will Return With Major Music Guests Including John Fogerty, Lil Jon And Michelle Branch
Dan Rather seems to have no interest in retiring. The 89-year-old news legend is still cranking out new interviews on the regular over at AXS TV, and let the record show he’s not slowing down. The broadcaster will return for an upcoming ninth season of his show The Big Interview With Dan Rather, and he’s got some pretty appealing guests fans should love, as well as a fun theme: musical families.
Each remote sitdown for Season 9 of The Big Interview with Dan Rather will feature a famous musical family in which multiple members are professional musicians. The season will start with Rather talking to Hillary Scott of Lady A and her drummer husband Chris Tyrrell. You can check out a clip from that interview with Rather asking about Tyrell’s transition into being a stay at home father and the couple’s thoughts on that adjustment below...
Dan Rather has a non-threatening way of asking questions, even if he’s diving into subject matter that could be a bit pricklier. I’m sure that’s a big part of why he’s been so successful at having candid and interesting conversations during his career. You have to get people to open up about the subjects that aren’t always easy to talk about, but you have to do it in a way that makes them feel comfortable enough to share. It’s a tough line to walk.
Hillary Scott and Chris Tyrrell will be followed the next Wednesday by Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) from The Beastie Boys and his wife Kathleen Hanna who fronted the influential punk rock band Bikini Kill. Following that chat the rest of the season will be filled out by Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty and his kids that make up Fogerty’s Factory, then Jason Isbell and his wife Amanda Shires, Lil Jon and his son Slade and finally Michelle Branch her husband from The Black Keys Patrick Carney.
Clips aren’t available for anything beyond the debut episode, but if they’re anything like prior The Big Interview episodes, we’ll all be in for a treat. Rather has proven especially skillful with speaking with musicians and prior episodes of his series on AXS have included tons of big names in the music community including Ice Cube, Kid Rock, Lindsey Buckingham, Weird Al Yankovic, Annie Lennox, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jack White, Loretta Lynn and more.
