There were months of intense speculation surrounding Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s relationship prior to their divorce announcement last month. Yet not a single person from the Jenner/Kardashian reality TV family has broken ranks and spoken out about the divorce... until now. Matriarch and momager Kris Jenner, true to form, broke the silence and shared her feelings about her daughter’s impending divorce.
As head of her family and their Kardashian-Jenner brand empire, it makes sense for the first word on the Kim Kardashian-Kanye West divorce to come from Kris Jenner. Speaking about it on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, Jenner had this to say:
Well, I think it’s always going to be hard anytime, you know there’s a lot of kids and Kim and Kanye. The good thing about our family is, you know, we’re there for each other and we’re supportive and we love each other very, very much. So, all I want is for those two kids to be happy. And I want the kids to be happy, so that’s my goal.
Alas, divorce can be a notoriously tricky path to navigate, so Kris Jenner’s hopes for support and happiness may be optimistic. Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West in February, but the conversation quickly pivoted to the particulars surrounding the kids and finances. Kardashian will reportedly be getting primary custody of their four children – Saint, Psalm, North, and Chicago – as well as the Hidden Hills mansion the couple created together.
Given Kanye West’s bizarre behavior over the past year, many have questioned his capacity to parent. But sources have stated that Kim Kardashian trusts West despite their differences and wants her kids to have a relationship with their father, even with rumors abounding of their awkward co-parenting style.
But family support is huge for the clan of Kardashian-Jenners. Kourtney Kardashian’s ex Scott Disick is very much still a part of their lives and the shenanigans that often keep Keeping Up with the Kardashians afloat. Even Tristan Thompson, Khloe Kardashian’s cheating ex and father of her daughter True, has been brought back into the fold. Kris Jenner elaborated on the podcast,
I think we all want that [happiness] for our families. Just to be able to have, just about the love and the appreciation of one another. And just that everyone’s OK.
Kris Jenner isn’t giving too much away with her response despite opening up a bit. Of course, she wants her family to be happy, loving and supportive, but she revealed nothing about why exactly Kim Kardashian and Kanye West split or how they are really coping.
Still, it is not entirely surprising that Kris Jenner teased these feelings around the final Keeping Up with the Kardashians season premiere. We expect nothing less from the momager. Watch new episodes of the long-running reality show on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on E! for more.
