Grammy winner Paula Abdul has spent eight years as a judge on American Idol and is more or less synonymous with the show, even to folks like me who go out of our way to avoid it. However, she wasn’t destined to be forever their girl, it would seem: Abdul has announced via her Twitter feed that she won’t be returning for the upcoming ninth season.

Only a few weeks ago, the pop singer was using that very same Twitter account to reveal that she had yet to sign a deal to return for the new season of Idol, but at the time both Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest suggested she would probably be back.

Abdul also expressed her appreciation for the support of her fans, but stopped of short of straight up now telling them if she really wanted to love them forever.
