Is GCB poised to take over the soon to be vacated Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. spot at ABC? It looks like the network is planning to test the waters there, with Desperate Housewives on the way out and decisions to be made about the next TV season.

According to Deadline, ABC is going to see how their midseason dramedy GCB does in Desperate Housewives’ prime 9 o’clock time slot on Sunday night. On April 8 at 9, two new episodes of GCB will air back-to-back, following a rerun of Once Upon a Time. As the site notes, the set-up should inform ABC’s decision over whether GCB might be the right series to park in that time slot permanently next season.

On paper, GCB seems like the right kind of replacement for a show like Desperate Housewives, what with its focus on shiny, wealthy characters, living in a shiny, wealthy suburb full of drama (and some humor), however, GCB hasn’t exactly been raking in the ratings. At least, not by comparison to Desperate Housewives, even in its more recent years when ratings have declined substantially from what the Marc Cherry drama once took in. Perhaps the temporary shift to 9:00 p.m. will give GCB the ratings boost it needs to ensure ABC that the series has a shot at improving its numbers.
