Is Joan of Arcadia’s Amber Tamblyn really old enough to be playing doctor roles? Apparently (I feel old) as Fox announced today that she’s set play a role in the next season of House, and she wont be playing a teen-patient trying to keep a deep dark secret from her parents (or some other typical House teen role).

Alright, technically she’s not playing a doctor, but she’ll be doing doctor-like things in House next season.

Tamblyn is known for her starring role in Joan of Arcadia, as well The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies. She also played Dawn’s lone (and rarely seen) friend Janice in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. According to the information Fox released today, she’s set to join House for a multi-episode arc in the medical drama series’ seventh season, set to premiere Monday, September 20th on Fox.

She will play a brilliant and aggressive medical student whom DR. HOUSE (Hugh Laurie) hires as a new team member although she is technically not yet qualified to practice medicine. Tamblyn’s character will be confronted with the morally and ethically questionable way that House practices medicine.

Good news? Without a doubt. I think, given her previous performances, she’s more than up to the task of going up against the likes of Hugh Laurie and the rest of House’s fantastic cast. Her excellent performance as the title character in Joan of Arcadia earned her much deserved Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. I have no trouble picturing her as the smart but wet-behind-the-ears med student.
