American Idol Gets A New Judge

Do you remember back in season two of American Idol when the producers tried to add a fourth judge? Yeah, I don’t either. Apparently they did, because it is mentioned in an article that EOnline posted this morning. "Producers tried once before to add a fourth judge to the Idol mix, hiring New York DJ Angie Martinez to join the second season of the show. She lasted just five days before quitting, after revealing she had never bothered to watch an episode before signing on."

Wondering what that has to do with this article? Well, the rest of that article reports that there is going to be a new fourth permanent judge added to the next season of AI.

You are probably expecting some uber-famous diva that can make semi-rational comments, right? Nope. It’s someone you’ve most likely never heard of… “singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi. The Grammy nominee's name may not be familiar to Idol viewers, but her sound should be. DioGuardi has strong ties to the behind-the-scenes world of Idol, writing tracks for David Cook, David Archuleta, Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken, Bo Bice, Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks."

She has also more than earned her credentials outside the Idol universe, penning hits for Britney Spears, Jonas Brothers, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Paris Hilton, Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Leona Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, Santana, Hilary Duff, Simpsons Jessica and Ashlee and just about any other artist who's cracked Billboard's Top 10 in recent years.”

Well, that helps. Now I know about her background, but I still don’t know what she’s like. It seems like she will know her stuff, and she isn’t going to bail because she doesn’t get how the show works. I’m sure she will bring a good balance to the nonsense that comes out of Paula’s mouth. I never cease to be amazed that they keep that nut job around.
