The Artist's Penelope Ann Miller Joins ABC's Mistresses
Among her most recent roles, Penelope Ann Miller played a part in the Oscar-winning film The Artist and appeared numerous times in TNT's Men of a Certain Age. But I may always associate her best for her part as the panicked Brenda in Adventures in Babysitting. And maybe a little bit for her part in Kindergarten Cop (...and Big Top Pee-Wee). Among her upcoming roles, it looks like we'll be seeing her in ABC's Mistresses.
Based on a U.K. series from K.J. Steinberg, Mistresses is a drama that follows the "scandalous lives of a sexy and sassy group of four girlfriends, each on her own path to self-discovery, as they brave the turbulent journey together." Already set to star are Alyssa Milano, Jes Macallan, Rochelle Ayters and Lost's Sunjin Kim. According to EW, Penelope Ann Miller has joined the cast of the series, playing the recurring role of the mother of Erik Stocklin's character Sam. She is apparently unaware that her late husband had an affair with Yunkin Kim's character Karen. Drama!
According to what ABC says about Kim's Karen, she's a "a successful therapist with her own practice, reconnects with the girls after her involvement in a complicated relationship with a patient goes far too deep." I wonder if that's a reference to Miller's character's husband, or if Kim's "complicated relationship with a patient" is completely different piece of drama in the character's life. Either way, it should be interesting to see how Miller's character fits into all of this (especially assuming she eventually finds out about her husband's infidelity).
ABC has the series set for sometime during midseason next year. With a cast that already boasts a few recognizable names, Miller is certainly one more familiar face joining the project.
